Class Descriptions

Structural/Flow Yoga™ & Flow/Structural Yoga™

These hatha yoga classes combine a focus on personalized, optimal alignment, with creative flow (vinyasa) sequences that ride the breath and integrate the asanas into a practice that builds skills for more advanced practices, while always taking individual needs into account. Structural/Flow classes include more individual asanas 20 (poses) and few flow sequences/Sun Salutations with variations and combinations; Flow/Structural classes involve more flowing Sun & Moon Salutation-based sequences and somewhat fewer static poses. The Flow/Structural classes tend to be somewhat more challenging and physically demanding, and more appropriate for intermediate+ students. Wednesdays, 7:30-9 pm & Sundays, 9-10:30 am.

Structural Yoga Essentials

Many methods of yoga have at their core a series of poses that form the foundation upon which all other poses are built.  Structural Yoga, a method of yoga that adapts poses for individual needs, has as its foundation three essential routines:  The "Joint Freeing Series," "The 24," and "The Sun Salutation."

Come learn these three essential routines in their pure form, as taught by the originator of Structural Yoga, Mukunda Stiles.

This class is appropriate for those new to yoga, those who wish to deepen their understanding of yoga's basic poses, people who want to develop a consistent "home practice," and yoga teachers wishing to teach with greater clarity and skill.
All levels are welcome.  Mondays, 6:15-7:30 pm.

Gentle Yoga for Healing & Stress
Slow-Mo-Flow Gentle Yoga for Healing & Stress

Contemplative, quieting, and relaxing, these classes pair gentle, therapeutic yoga with breath work, relaxation, meditation, and guided imagery. Appropriate for those with pain, health challenges, stress, and those who are on a healing journey.

In the Slow-Mo-Flow class (Thursday evenings) very gentle breath-centered flow sequences are offered, and there are more standing poses than in the Gentle class.

In the Gentle class (Tuesday evenings), there are very few standing poses, and the class overall is ultra-gentle and taught at a super-slow, gentle pace. Both classes are excellent for those looking for a gentle, contemplative experience, stress reduction, and a restful practice.

Gentle Yoga for Healing and Stress, Tuesdays, 5:45-7 pm
Slow-Mo-Flow Gentle Yoga Thursdays, 7- 8:30 pm

Tai Chi / Qi Gong

Around the world, fans of Tai Chi and Qi Gong have long espoused the health benefits of these ancient gentle, yet powerful Chinese martial arts disciplines. Tai Chi involves deep breathing, relaxation, and slow, steady movement from one posture to another. Qi Gong uses simple, graceful movements, breathing and meditation to promote the circulation of one's "qi" or life force within the body.

Together, Tai Chi and Qi Gong can reduce stress and enhance health, strength, flexibility, digestion, heart health, balance, focus, and overall well-being, and alleviate some of the symptoms that accompany conditions such as arthritis, fibromyalgia, MS and Parkinsons.

In this class, Hasmig offers Qi Gong exercises and Tai Chi "forms" in an easy-to-learn, accessible manner that is appropriate for all levels; no prior experience with Tai Chi or Qi Gong is required.
Wednesdays, 6:20-7:10 pm, Starting 2/3!

Note: Please arrive 5-10 minutes early, as the class begins promptly at 6:20 pm.
