Class Descriptions

Structural/Flow Yoga™ & Flow/Structural Yoga™

These hatha yoga classes combine a focus on personalized, optimal alignment, with creative flow (vinyasa) sequences that ride the breath and integrate the asanas into a practice that builds skills for more advanced practices, while always taking individual needs into account. Structural/Flow classes include more individual asanas 20 (poses) and few flow sequences/Sun Salutations with variations and combinations; Flow/Structural classes involve more flowing Sun & Moon Salutation-based sequences and somewhat fewer static poses. The Flow/Structural classes tend to be somewhat more challenging and physically demanding, and more appropriate for intermediate+ students. Wednesdays, 7:30 - 9 pm & Sundays, 9 - 10:30 am.

Structural Yoga Essentials

Many methods of yoga have at their core a series of poses that form the foundation upon which all other poses are built.  Structural Yoga, a method of yoga that adapts poses for individual needs, has as its foundation three essential routines:  The "Joint Freeing Series," "The 24," and "The Sun Salutation."

Come learn these three essential routines in their pure form, as taught by the originator of Structural Yoga, Mukunda Stiles.

This class is appropriate for those new to yoga, those who wish to deepen their understanding of yoga's basic poses, people who want to develop a consistent "home practice," and yoga teachers wishing to teach with greater clarity and skill.
All levels are welcome.  Mondays, 6:15 - 7:30 pm.

Gentle Yoga for Healing & Stress
Slow-Mo-Flow Gentle Yoga for Healing & Stress

Contemplative, quieting, and relaxing, these classes pair gentle, therapeutic yoga with breath work, relaxation, meditation, and guided imagery. Appropriate for those with pain, health challenges, stress, and those who are on a healing journey.

In the Slow-Mo-Flow class (Thursday evenings) very gentle breath-centered flow sequences are offered, and there are more standing poses than in the Gentle class.

In the Gentle class (Tuesday evenings), there are very few standing poses, and the class overall is ultra-gentle and taught at a super-slow, gentle pace. Both classes are excellent for those looking for a gentle, contemplative experience, stress reduction, and a restful practice.

Gentle Yoga for Healing and Stress, Tuesdays, 5:45 - 7 pm
Slow-Mo-Flow Gentle Yoga Thursdays, 7 - 8:30 pm

Yoga For Bone Strength/Osteoporosis & Osteopenia

This is a class especially for those with osteopenia or osteoporosis, and those who wish to improve posture. In this class, students learn to move joyfully and safely, to prevent further bone loss and strengthen the core musculature that can build new, strong bone and foster improved posture and breathing. Combining safe, adapted yoga poses with a program that includes therapeutic, safe strengthening exercises from the worlds of physical therapy, personal training and Pilates-for-osteoporosis, and focuses on balance, fall prevention, and safe execution of activities of daily living, students can enjoy yoga while learning to avoid movements that could be harmful – in and out of yoga class!
Mondays, 10:30 am - 12 pm & Fridays, 10:30 am - 12 pm.

Pilates Matwork

Pilates mat class will help to create long, lean muscles, while gaining strength, flexibility, balance, alignment and postural improvement. Fundamental Pilates exercises and principles are incorporated with some familiar strength builders. This class is adaptable to any fitness level, and the student will quickly gain strength and familiarity with Pilates.  Tuesdays, 9:30 - 10:30 am.

Women's Yoga:  Freedom Within

At last, a class just for women. A class where women can feel completely comfortable to move, laugh, let loose, go deep. A class where women can join with other women in a profoundly honoring yoga practice that invites graceful, easeful and fluid movement to strengthen, stretch and release. A class where women can celebrate their own unique inner rhythm and voice.

In this new, for-women-only class, Carol Berlin, registered yoga teacher, guides women through relaxing and invigorating breathing exercises, inspiring meditations, delicious warm-ups, and a flowing yoga class to music you'll want to move to. The class includes creative variations on the Sun and Moon Salutation, and an eclectic mix of basic and intriguing yoga poses that invite the body to move in natural, easeful ways. Each class ends with relaxation time that will leave you feeling what Audrey Hepburn captured so perfectly when she said, "People, even more than things, have to be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed, and redeemed, and redeemed."

This Level 1-2 class is appropriate for women with some yoga experience.

So come, bring a friend, and be restored, renewed, revived, reclaimed, and redeemed!

Tuesdays, 8:15 - 9:15 pm.  Fee:  $15/class, drop-in.
(class cards cannot be used for this class)

Complimentary  First Class!

Summer Yoga for All

We want to offer yoga to everyone through the summer months while leaving plenty of time for everyone to enjoy the sun, sand, picnics, hikes and all the joys of warm weather; so we've decided to combine the two Saturday classes and alternate teachers throughout the summer.

If you're a beginner, if you've been doing yoga for years, or if you are anywhere in between, you'll be welcome and will hopefully enjoy the energy and learning that Saturday mornings seem to foster.

On occasion, personal commitments may require us to cancel class; hopefully these will be far and few between.  We will try to give you plenty of notice either by email or you can check on the Stone Yoga website.

Saturdays, 9 - 10:30 am
